Ari D. Weitzman


Ari Weitzman graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.A. in English and attended Widener University School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor.
Thereafter, Mr. Weitzman began his legal career at age 24 as an Assistant Public Defender in Dauphin County. While employed at the Public Defender's Office, Mr. Weitzman was twice promoted to a Senior Deputy Trial Attorney and then a Chief Deputy Public Defender. In his capacity as a Chief Deputy Public Defender, Mr. Weitzman, in addition to his regular case load, was in charge of the Appellate Division and specialized in the Post Conviction Relief Act.

Following his service at the Public Defender's Office, Mr. Weitzman accepted employment at The Wiley Group as an associate attorney, where his area of practice was limited to State and Federal Criminal Defense. In July, 2006, Mr. Weitzman accepted an offer to work at Abom & Kutulakis as one of three attorneys who focuses his practice in State and Federal Criminal Defense.

During his career, Mr. Weitzman has had numerous felony jury trials, including but not limited to the following charges: Murder, Rape, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Arson, Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, and Drug Felonies. He has also had an assortment of misdemeanor jury and non-jury trials, including Driving Under the Influence cases. Mr. Weitzman is Death Penalty Certified and has successfully argued for a life sentence for a former client who had been previously sentenced to the death penalty prior to Mr. Weitzman's involvement in the case.

Mr. Weitzman has attended the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia and frequently attends continuing legal education classes. He has been selected as a Criminal Justice Act Panel Attorney who represents indigent federal criminal defendants before the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and the Federal Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Weitzman has been a guest lecturer at: University of Penn State Harrisburg, University of Pittsburgh, York College, Widener University School of Law, and Harrisburg Area Community College.
